Charles Huang is an Associate at Spark Capital and joined the investment team in July of 2010. Charles is passionate about health care and at Spark he focuses on the conflux between health care, technology and media. He is fascinated and motivated by finding ways to improve the health care system – better outcomes, increased quality, more effective and efficient care – and working with passionate entrepreneurs who share this vision. His experience in a variety of roles and organizations in the health care delivery system provide him with the ability to see both the big picture and the details, and correspondingly add significant value.
Prior to Spark, Charles was involved with a few early stage health care start-ups, most recently having served as an entrepreneur in Highland Capital Partners’ Summer@Highland program and involved with Generation Health where he focused on data operations, integration, and analysis. He also served as the Director of Strategy and Marketing for Accelecare. Previously Charles worked at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, serving as the Manager of Strategic Financial Planning. He was directly involved with multiple high level corporate initiatives that improved top line revenue and cost containment, in addition to serving on several cross-functional strategy groups with senior executives and management of the company. Charles also worked in the health and welfare consulting practice at Towers Perrin, advising Fortune 500 clients on their health care strategies and conducting due diligence and audits on payors and disease management companies. He also has worked in the Radiology Department at Johns Hopkins Hospital, conducting research in teleradiology and telemedicine.
Charles Huang holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and an MPA from Harvard Kennedy School of Government. He has a BA in Public Health, with concentrations in Health Policy & Management and Economics from Johns Hopkins University. He speaks Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.
