Stephen M. Sammut is a venture partner focused on special projects for the firm (Latin America, the Middle East, Japan and emerging markets). During his career he has been involved in the creation of nearly 40 biotechnology,Internet, and information technology companies. His experience includes Vice President of S.R. One (the venture fund of Glaxo SmithKline),Vice President of Corporate Development at Teleflex Incorporated, Managing Director of Technology Transfer at the University of Pennsylvania, and Founder and CEO of one of the first and largest transplant organ banks in the United States. He is on numerous Boards of Directors and Advisory Boards, including Mitsubishi International Corporation,Combinent BioMedical Systems, Gentis, and Dynamis Therapeutics. In addition, he is on the boards of the Cornell University Research Foundation, the Massachusetts General Hospital Technology Transfer Committee, and the American Type Culture Collection. Mr. Sammut holds an academic appointment as Senior Fellow in Entrepreneurship and Health Care Systems at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he teaches courses on venture capital, private equity in emerging markets, intellectual property strategy, biotech entrepreneurship, and private sector participation in global health. He is also an advisor to the joint MBA/Masters in Biotechnology Program.
