Gareth Chang holds a BA in Mathematics/Physics and a Doctor of Science (Honorary) from California State University, and an MBA from Pepperdine University. He is a Visiting Professor of Tsinghua University in Beijing and a Professor (Honorary) at the Beijing Institute of Aerospace and Astronautics. Mr. Chang also served on the Council of the Governors of the Hopkins-Nanjing Center for Chinese and American Studies, and is currently serving on the Advisory Board of UCLA School of Public Policy and Affairs as well the Council of Governors of the East West Players in Los Angeles.
Mr. Chang was formally Chairman and Chief Executive of StarTV Group of News Corporation, the leading multi-channel satellite television network in Asia. He was also an executive director of News Corporation Board and a member of the Executive Committee. Prior to joining News Corporation in 1998, Mr. Chang was Corporate Senior Vice President and member of the Office of the Chairman, Hughes (Aircraft) Electronics Corporation, responsible for all domestic marketing and sales, as well as worldwide operations in Canada, Europe, Middle East, Latin America and Asia. Additionally, he was President of DirecTV International and Executive Chairman of Hughes-Hughes JVC Technology. Prior to joining Hughes in 1993, Mr. Chang held the position of Corporate Vice President and a member of the Executive council of McDonnell Douglas Corporation, responsible for all Asia and Pacific operations. He also served as the founding Executive Chairman of the McDonnell Douglas-Shanghai Aviation Executive Board overseeing the sale and production of commercial jets in China; Senior Vice President of McDonnell Douglas Information systems Company; divisional Vice president of Engineering and Director of Design and Technology for McDonnell Douglas Astronautics Company. Prior to joining McDonnell Douglas in 1973, Mr. Chang founded several high tech startups and held various executive positions with Xerox and Honeywell.
