Jeff Meissner began helping clients with their financial futures in 1985 with IDS/American Express financial advisors. After 2 1/2 years， both Jeff and many of his clients realized it would be advantageous to have access to a wider range of investment alternatives than IDS could offer. He became an independent financial advisor in 1988 and increased the number of investments available to his clients from 26 to more than 10，000. The expansion of available products also extended to annuities， long-term care and life insurance. This initiative led Jeff to form Balanced Asset Management.
